Qsource’s CMP Program Transforms Nursing Home Care
Qsource is currently recruiting long-term care facilities in North Carolina for the next CMP-funded initiative. Benefits to participating nursing homes include peer-to-peer collaboration, meeting federal Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) requirements, and access to best practices. Participants receive hands-on technical assistance and data analysis support, as well. There is no additional administrative burden for participants. This technical assistance is offered to a limited number of eligible nursing homes at no cost.
CMP funds, accrued through penalties imposed by Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) on facilities breaching regulatory standards, are channeled back to states to bolster quality improvement work. Qsource’s stewardship of CMP funds has enhanced skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nurtured a culture of safety.
Throughout Qsource’s four-year project in Tennessee, facilities participating in the program achieved substantial relative improvement rates (RIR) across multiple measures, including a significant reduction in resident falls, nursing staff turnover, and antipsychotic use. Some facilities were able to eliminate facility-acquired pressure injuries, as well. Additionally, Qsource’s emphasis on staff training and empowerment yielded improved proficiency in QAPI protocols, translating into enhanced care delivery and resident satisfaction.
The success of Qsource’s CMP program in Tennessee is a testament to the efficacy of strategic intervention in healthcare. By harnessing CMP funds for targeted quality improvement initiatives, Qsource fosters a culture of excellence and accountability.
